Help Them Find New Homes

Many dogs are abused by their owners, and some of them never find new homes. They need your help! One way is to volunteer at a shelter or pet store that houses dogs that are avalible for adoption. I am seriously considering volunteering at the Humane Society in my neighborhood, because I want to help these animals. My best friend is one of the people gracious enough to volunteer at our neighborhood PETCO. Here are some questions she graciously answered:

VBAAC:How many abused or abandoned animals are adopted by people at Petco?

DK:We get a lot of animals that are abandoned but we rarely get abused ones. And if they are abused, it is minor injuries.

VBAAC:How would you say volunteering at Petco has changed your life?

DK:Well I feel like it teaches me responsibility and it makes me happier knowing that I'm helping animals find homes and feel loved. Just like they should be.

VBAAC:Who is your favorite dog that you have meet while volunteering at Petco?

DK:My favorite dog? Haha, that would be Sammie. He's a pomeranian that we found.

If you want to volunteer at a place like this, do it! The dogs and other animals will greatly appreciate it!

Wow

Every day, thousands of animals are tested. Drugs, medicine, shampoo and lotions are only some of the products tested on animals. And no, it is not only rats and mice who are tested.

Mice, rabbits, dogs, ferrets, horses, chickens, cows and fish are all tested on. What did the animals do to you? NOTHING! So why should you test on them?

BAN ANIMAL TESTING! SAVE THE ANIMALS!

Um...

Um... I'm not blaming anyone but for some reason I'm not an admin anymore. Could someone like Kenna-Page or Cherry re-add me? Thanks!

Also, I recently went to the circus and they were whipping the animals! And yes, the circus was Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey.

Rats!

Rats get tested for science and it is wrong! 90% Of rats die each year for what? SCIENCE! Also why do they have a ba reputation? I have a rat called Carly she is awesome! So why? They get tested for stupid things! That is STUPID!STUPID! People think eww rats! But no! no! no! they are FRIENDLY! They are small rodents that cant buy stuff for them selves they need you, or wild rats they dont want to be tested!Or to be cooped up in a sciene lab all year!(then probably never come back :( It is aweful) SO

ANIMAL TESTING? NO!
RATS? YES!

We Hurt Them-They Save Us

Is this our thanks of them saving us? Animal Cruelty happens every day. Although, mostly everyday, an animal saves us. Fire House Dogs, Avalanche Rescues, See and Eye Dog, and many more. But instead of thanking them, we waste their lives. They work hard to save us while people just kill them for useless things! (example, fur coats)  What would we do if they weren't there for us? Thousands of people would die in burning buildings, we would freeze in the snow, never to be found again, and blind, deaf, handicapped, (etc.) would have to have 24 hour care! Yet, we still don't understand. Please say your thanks!

From a Child--We Grow-We Stay

Sometimes children start throwing rocks at kittens, puppies, etc... throwing them out of windows, kicking them, stomping them-sometimes to death. People grow, enjoying the suffering more. No one reports the adults-they don't feel like it.

This can happen, but you can stop it.

It only takes one voice to start an avalanche, but only one more to yell "Get out of the way!".

If you see a sad, poor animal being abused, you need to act. Call the police.

"Yesterday I saw a cat dead on the side of the street. It wasn't a car that hit it (it wasn't squashed, but opened a little-way in the grass in a yard). I know that pit fighting has happened (and likely still is) in my neighborhood. Cats and other small animals (including puppies) are often used as bait to get the fight "started and ready". I couldn't help but think that (since I hadn't seen that Maine Coon cat in this neighborhood in my life) that somebody "used it and threw it"."
~Brooke (Brooke4Blogger-Me)

If somebody saw cruelty happen and did nothing, they should have done something.

Do the right thing-be the VOICE during the AVALANCHE!

When young strike

As a youth Albert DeSalvo (the Boston strangler) trapped cats and dogs in crates and abused them. Peter Kurten (the Dusseldorf vampire) started torturing dogs as a boy and carried the vile practice into adulthood. Brenda Spencer fired rifle shots at school children, wounding nine and killing two. Neighbors of the murderess reported that she often abused cats and dogs, sometimes by setting their tails on fire.

Can you believe that? How sad. :( They all started doing the deal when they KIDS! :(

PS: Whoever is voting "Awesome!" on all of our posts, WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT? I mean really, think of the poor animals we are talking about! Why do you think it's good? Is it simply to annoy us, or are you animal abusers first-hand? If you are either one, either stop, or go away and leave us alone, because we don't need people like you here!

Pit Bulls; The Truth

For all you people out there who work in animal shelters, don't you realize how many Pit Bulls are cramped into your shelter? A lot, right? People think that these dogs are dangerous, but they are not. Seriously. Pit Bulls were the most popular dogs in the world in the early 20th century.

So what happened?

1.) Since 1998, the breed most involved in fatal attacks has been the **********(don't want to put any other breeds on the spot), not the Pit Bull.

2.) Although there are no accurate or even near accurate census records for dogs in the U.S., in some populations pit bulls are estimated to comprise some 30-40% of the dog population, making it by FAR the most popular breed. Considering that there are an estimated 53,000,000 dogs in the U.S., and assuming that pit bulls make up 20% of that population, there would be approximately 10,600,000 pit bulls in our society. In 1998, five pit bulls were involved in 2 fatal attacks.
That is roughly ONE dog out of 2,120,000 of the pit bull Population.

3.) Over the 32-year period from 1965-2001, Pit Bulls have been blamed for/accused of an average of 2 human fatalities per year.

4.) A person, during their lifetime, is 16 times more likely to drown in a 5-gallon water pail than to be killed by a Pit Bull.

5.) Approximately 150 people are killed every year by falling coconuts. Therefore, you are more than 60 TIMES MORE LIKELY to be killed by a coconut than a Pit Bull.
6.) It is estimated that 5,000,000 dogs per year are killed in shelters. Since in many places pit bulls make up 30-50% of the shelter population, and are less likely to be considered for placement than any other breed, guessing that 25% of those dogs killed are pit bulls is a very conservative estimate. Therefore, it can be assumed that roughly 1,250,000 pit bulls are killed per year. Therefore - it is at least a HALF MILLION TIMES MORE LIKELY that a Pit Bull will be killed by a HUMAN than the other way around.

7.) The average Number of people killed by a Pit Bull each year is 3.

8.) It can be estimated that for every Pit Bull who kills, there are 10.5 MILLION that DON'T!

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE MISCONCEPTION ABOUT PIT BULLS!!!
MANY WONDERFUL, SWEET DOGS ARE IN DANGER OF BEING KILLED!

Sorry! I had to take a couple facts out because they were a little 'inappropriate' for this blog.

Hi!

Hi! I'm Jay, a new author. Here is a little bit about me.

I have two dogs, a German Shepard and a Keeshond. They are so cute! I work at our local animal shelter. I am so suprised at how many of the dogs there are Pit Bulls. They are such sweethearts, I find it is impossible to give them to their new owners.
I find animal cruelty terrible. Animals were domesticated for comfort and enjoyment in my opinion, not to be hurt.

Circus Animals Tortured!

"In medieval prisons, inmates were punished with a vile device called a 'cat-o'-nine-tails' — a whip made of nine knotted thongs of cotton cord designed to lacerate the skin and cause intense pain. Reforms have rightfully eliminated such cruelty to human prisoners, but for animals in circuses, corporal punishment is still the norm, as PETA's [People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals] new undercover investigation of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has revealed. It's 2009, yet elephants in circuses are still beaten with bullhooks — a rod resembling a fireplace poker with a sharp metal hook on the end — and tigers and other animals are violently whipped." (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) The author reveals Ringling's abusive practices and concludes that current law "does not protect animals in circuses. It's up to the public to say, 'Enough is enough!'"

Apologies

There has been talk of admins publishing emails. I now know who that person is: my friend from my neighborhood. She came over to my house one day and wanted to see my blogs. I let her. She was particularily intereted in this blog, and there was one unpublished email. She pressed publish while I was in the bathroom. She obviously remembered my email and password, as she came on a few more times, publishing emails. I changed my password, and asked her if she had done it, as she was the only
person who I thought of. She confessed to the whole story.

Every time I tell her of all the shocked comments you have written, her face goes bright red and she seems really apologetic. She said sorry about a million times. I deleted the emails she published, and I (and my friend!) hope no one weird emails you.

I'm really glad that that's cleared up. And my friend promises she'll never do it again.

Terrier Starved To Death- Owner is busted!!

"When two severely emaciated Jack Russell Terriers arrived at the New York City Animal Care & Control (AC&C) shelter in Brooklyn, staff immediately suspected they had a cruelty case on their hands. Brooklyn resident Vera Osborne had relinquished the starving dogs, claiming that her niece could no longer afford to feed them—and that she could no longer bear witness to it. One of the dogs, a two-year-old pup named Patches, died within hours of being admitted, despite heroic veterinary efforts to save him.

“Unfortunately, starvation is one of the most common types of cruelty we investigate,” says Stacy Wolf, Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel for the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Department. “Animal cruelty is a serious crime, and we are doing everything we can to see that the victims receive justice.”

AC&C contacted the ASPCA Humane Law Department for assistance with the case, and a necropsy performed at ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital confirmed that Patches’ cause of death was indeed starvation.

Soon after, ASPCA Special Agent Joe Vais began investigating Patches’ death, traveling to Osborne’s East Flatbush home for an interview. When questioned, Osborne again stated that the dogs were under the sole care of her niece, Rlisa Youell, and that after several failed attempts to have the dogs properly cared for, she turned them over to the shelter.

On February 24, Special Agent Vais arrested Youell and charged her with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. She faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The second dog has been treated and made available for adoption at AC&C in Brooklyn."

This is from the ASPCA (I know, happened awhile ago, but just wanted to let you know) Don't you see how cruel that is?! Poor Patches. :(

Can you spell CRUEL?

Cases of animal cruelty:

"According to the Animal Defense League Fund, ADLF, two college baseball players attending Baylor University, allegedly shot, skinned, and beheaded a cat, named Queso. They were charged in the death of the cat and suspended from Baylor for 15 days. For more details, access the ADLF .

In California, 85 children, ages ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade, whitnessed a cow being slaughtered at Carbon Canyon Christian School, according to PETA Action Alerts. The rational for having the students whitness this cruel act was that they could see this act, instead of only experiencing it through the books they had read during the year. For more information about this act, access PETA Action Alerts .

An Alabama man, in September 2000, allegedly shot his Labrador mix puppy and burned the dog on a burning trash pile, while it was still alive, according to ADLF. Neighbors were unable to rescue the screaming wounded puppy, which burned to death. He allegedly shot and burned to death the puppy for getting into the trash. He could face a Class C Felony. For more details, click on Animal Cruelty Actionline.

Two thirteen year old boys, according to a PETA Actionline Report, sodomized a kitten with a stick, who followed them. According to whitnesses, the kitten tried to run away from the boys when they turned on it, but they picked her up and threw her to the ground after swinging and shaking her violently. While the cat was trying to escape by climbing a tree, it was reported that the boys followed her and shoved a stick into the kitten. The kitten's anus was ruptured, she had internal injuries neurological damage when brought to Pasado's Safe Hven of Shnohomish County. A detailed account of this incident may be viewed at PETA Action Alerts.

Hop Bottom, PA, was the scene of a tame deer, "Bam Bam", shot and killed. Allegedly, the killer,, shot and killed "Bam Bam", a 4-year-old tame male dear, confined in a fenced-in area. The deer had been raised by a kind lady since infancy. Instead of being charged with a felony crime, he was able to plead guilty to a lesser charge of criminal mischief, and firing a firearm within a safety zone. For more information about the killing of this tame deer, access ALDF.
As disturbing and cruel as these reports are, it is important that humans be aware of the cruelty that fellow humans inflict on innocent animals. These innocent animals will have protection and justice, only if we are aware of this need and act.

Kenna-Page Man and Dog

So I was on the Internet and I found this news article from yesterday! It was about a Man just getting done talking to a women and he found a dog. After the Women left he shot the dog in its Hind Quarters.
The Dog was wounded.

I feel so bad for that Female Dog! No dog deserves to be hurt with HOMEMADE Bows and Arrows! I mean, SERIOUSLY?!?
And the good news is this Man is going to be charged with One Count of Animal Crulety.

Thanks!

Horrible movies

The following is a review of a movie involved in animal killing... :(

"Possibly, the worst case of animal cruelty in film is the movie, 'Cannibal Holocaust'. Though the movie waded in troubled waters ever since it was released, it was proven than at least six animals, a muskrat, a pig, a monkey, a snake, a turtle and a large spider were killed for the sake of the film. It has been said that the scene depicting the monkey had to shot twice, and therefore, two monkeys were sacrificed for movie realism." ~Roy D'Silva

Can you belive it? SIX animals killed for the sake of entertainment? I can't belive they'd do such a NASTY thing like that just for greed! :(

Oil Spills!

The effects of oil spills on sea birds:

Okay imagine yourself as any type of sea bird. Your flying around and you see a fish pop out of the water. You dive down to scoop it out to eat. But the fish dives down back under the water. You dive down to see if you can find it but when you try to come up to take a breath heavy oil is all over your feather and on your beak so you can hardly breath. So okay, you have heavy oil on your feathers. What do you do? Of course! You try cleaning it off yourself. But your just swallowing poisonous oil! Oil spills have a very heavy impact with all sorts of creatures!

The effects of oil spills on whales

Okay so change from a bird to any kind of whale! Your swimming around and you feel you need to come up for air. You arise and stick you head out of the water you take a deep breath and sticky black oil seeps into your blowhole making you gasp for more air! The more you try to breathe the more oil seeps into your blowhole, until actually it fills up and their is no room for air. Yeah I know!

Sorry I haven't been here in like...forever!! Hope my post was okay...

Dumping a Animal in a River-Why?

Ok, I don't even know why people do this, but, sometimes one of those cold-hearted people don't spay their cat and end up with kittens (and or dog/puppies). And then, not wanting them, they simply put them in a bag, tie it up, but a rock in it and dump them in a river. Why do they do that? I don't know. Their just to lazy to just go to the shelter and try to give them a good home. They find this the 'easy' way. This is another reason why we encourage you to spay or neuter your pet.

Backyard Breeders (AKA BYBs)

BYBs just means Backyard Breeders. Backyard breeders are people who don't breed animals unprofessionally and not properly. Many backyard breeders start like this...basically: "Hmm, I want to start breeding dogs..." *looks up dog breed* "I think I like dobermans." *gets female pregnant* "Uh... omg, what do I do! She's panting-is she going into labor? What is THAT?! Something is wrong... I think." *goes on Yahoo! Answer-Types: My dog is giviinng brth and idk somtihing is wrong wit her! Wat do I du?*-answers-*What is wrong with you? I hate you BYBs.*-*Get her to the vet! Next time-spay your dang dogs!*-*FREAK BYBS YOU NEED TO CALL THE VET AND GET YOUR DOG FIXED OMG!* "Okay... uh... the baby isn't moving I don't know I need to call the vet."

3 weeks later

"Anybody want to buy dogs? Eh... what do I do with it-them. Where did it go? Oh, under the couch." *grabs puppy* "Hey, wanna buy a dog?" *old lady* "Why how much is it?"-guy-"I'll give you one-five hundred dollars." "Okay!" "Anybody wanna dog?

1 day later

"Okay, can you just take these dogs? I don't want them."
__________________________________________
Sometimes BYBs aren't bad. Some are informed, but don't bother to think that BYBs only put dogs in shelters. Some people breed dogs because they just need the money, when yet they don't think that there are other ways (which there are) to get money. We need to think about the animals-we really do. Not ourselves.

Spay and neuter.
Leave the breeding to the breeders.

Exxon Valdez Oil Spill: how much wildlife was lost

This may not have to do with animal cruelty but I felt like I really needed to tell everyone...
I was reading about The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill (that happened in 1989). I thought it was interesting so I read on. Then I saw what was estimated for the loss of wildlife...

Sea birds: 250,000
Sea otters: 2,800
Harbor seals: 300
Bald eagles: 250
Killer whales: 22
Salmon and herring eggs: trillions

I just can't beleive that, can you?

Yahoo! Answers-now THIS is cruelty!

I was answering animal questions on Yahoo! Answers, when this came up:

What is a Humane Way to Kill Kittens?

A stray pregnant female continues to spawn kittens (I cannot catch her to have her spayed). The last time she had a litter, I had no other choice than to kill them. My first attempt involved placing them in a cardboard box, and running a garden hose affixed to my vehicles exhaust into it. I assumed they would fall asleep and not wake-up, however, after 30 minutes of exhaust, I opened the box, only to find them huddled around the warm exhaust hose. Unfortunately, I believe I was only successful in rendering them mentally retarded, as they stumbled about as if they were drunk. My next attempt was successful. I bound the kittens tightly in a garbage bag, placed them in front of the tire of my truck, and quickly drove forward. I had used several layers of trash bags, in hopes of containing kitten explosions. Unfortunately, it was not enough, and I had quite a mess to clean-up.

So that's the question. Cruel, isn't it? Lots of people think so. Do the world a favor-don't be this person!
