Another Animal Cruelty Case

(Guys, we should really start posting again.)

This is about a poor dog who was forced to submit to the greedy needs of teenagers. The fun-seeking teens placed very strong firecrackers in the dog's mouth, and made sure that he wouldn't be able to open it. And then, well, boom.

To the teenagers, it was a 'fun' experience, and they went on with living lives without caring. What do you think the dog did? Luckily, he was saved, but is now forced to live with the tragic scars to remind him of this horrible incident. Why are people doing this to animals? Is it fun? No. How could watching poor animals get mutilated be a form of entertainment? This is pushing animal cruelty to its limits.

Below is a picture of this poor dog. I wouldn't call it too disturbing, but it still is very sad. Humans should work together to help animals, not harm them.

Animal Cruelty: Dog Fights

I noticed nobody has posted in a long time so I figured I should-

This post is about Dog Fight awareness. If you dont know already, Dog Fights is a revolting, cruel sport where people with take stray dogs off the street, breed dogs, find dogs or steal dogs like Pit Bulls that can fight and kill. Then they "train" the dogs by trapping them in cages and hitting them. Soon the dog will bite, out of fear or anger, then the person stops. Later, he does it again. It teaches the dog that when they bite, the pain stops. Then they anger two dogs and put them in a enclosure together with seats around the outside so people can watch. They bid money on which dog they think will win. One of the dogs is always killed except on rare ocations. Either the dog's oponent kills him or he is killed later because he did not win/dumped on the streets and his wounds cause him to die. It is a sick sport and is banned in most places, but drugs are banned to, and do people just not do them? NO. Dog Fights can take place anywhere. Back yards, enclosed arenas and houses.
When Dog Fights are busted the dogs go to the shelter and because nobody wants a "blood-thirsty pit bull" or a scarred bloody mess of a dog, they are most often put down. Here is a link about Dog Fighting-

My Essay on Animal Testing.

Hey guys!! This is my essay for school on animal testing. Feel free to edit and post comments! NO MEAN COMMENTS PLEASE!! I worked really hard on this!!

Do you have a pet? A bunny or a dog or maybe even a rat or mouse. Well picture your pet locked up in a cage while someone puts their designer makeup product on it, to make sure its not poisonous or harmful. Not the best picture right? Well you can help, animals everyday are testing for makeup products and different drugs that are not even useful or needed in our lives. If you have a pet, or you know someone who has a pet you understand, even if your not that big of an animal lover, we are animals too, and animals should not have to suffer for makeups companies and cosmetics. Product testing on animals is immoral.

Animals in the lab are treated awfully. During animal testing, animals are infected with diseases, force fed, kittens are purposely made blind and rats are forced to suffer seizures over and over again. Animals have to go through repeated surgery and are purposely poisoned. There is no end to the pain that animals in a lab go through. Animals that are used for drug testing are given diseases and infections, then euthanized, in labs animals are injected with a disease so that the cure can be tested. In cosmetic tests, caustic substances are placed in the eyes of conscious rabbits to evaluate damage to sensitive eye tissues. This is extremely painful for the rabbits, who often scream when the substances are applied and sometimes break their necks or backs trying to escape the restraints. It is inhumane to purposely give an animal a disease or infection or put something on them that will harm them. Animal testing kills 25-50 billion animals a year, and many others are harmed and injured as well. Animals in labs go through endless amount of pain and suffering for useless reasons. Even when they are not being tested on they are treated badly, they are kept in cages that are way to small, and depending on the experiment, they are hardly fed at all.

Products that are tested on animals are mostly inaccurate. Only 8% of the products that are tested are not passed by the FDA and 92% of them end up being harmful, poisonous, or deadly. They can also end up being more harmful then do any good. In 2004 painkillers were testing on animals and it caused 140,000 people to have a stroke or a heart attack, and 60,000 were fatal. For animal testing the highest percentage of animals that are used is rats and mice, even rats and mice tend to have different reactions to certain drugs or products. The age, sex and species effects the reaction. Lethal Dosage (LD) tests are used to determine the amount of a substance that will kill a predetermined ratio of animals. For example during the LD50 test subjects were forced to ingest poisonous products until half of them die. Reactions to LD tests are, eye bleeding, eye paralysis and vomiting.

Some people feel that product and cosmetic testing on animals is necessary for humans health and safety, but there are alternatives. Non-animal testing methods are more reliable and less expensive. These other methods make use of cell and skin tissue cultures, corneas from eye banks, and sophisticated computer and mathematical models. Some companies avoid any testing by using non-toxic natural ingredients or ingredients that have already been safety-approved by the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Fragrance Association. Gordon Baxter, co-founder of Pharmagene Laboratories, which uses only computers and human tissues to create and test drugs once said, “If you have information on human genes, what’s the point of going back to animals?”

Animals are tortured and killed in the labs, and even worse, they are killed for nothing because half of the tests are inaccurate. If there are other ways to test products, why would you use animals. Ways that you can stop animal testing is to not buy products or makeups that test on animals. Let companies that are testing on animals know that you wont buy their products!

Hey guys have not posted in a long time but I must for this.

I am doing a persuasive essay in school for a writing prompt and Im doing "animal testing is immoral"

Animals in the lab are forced to go through countless numbers of pain and surgery just so someone can test their designer make up product. 25-50 BILLION animals a year die from animal testing. Some animal testing is NEEDED in our life like cures for diseases and such that is life or death but even then, is the death of animals worth the price? While anyone who is here should say no!! For example kittens are forced to blindness and rats are FORCED to have seizures OVER AND OVER AND OVER again!! They are infected with diseases, overfed, underfed. Imagine if that was YOUR pet in the lab forced to go through pain and pain for makeup.

So Take Action,

Only buy products of makeup and stuff that say not tested on animals and if you see one, turn your nose up on it and DONT BUY IT (unless you are in a lidgit life or death situation) but If you need new EYELINER find one that is NOT tested on makeup!

Can these people be nice?

My friend told me yesterday that her dog was abused by their owner. They found it on the side of the road and returned it to the owner. When they returned it, the kicked and slapped him. Her family bought the dog.

A chef in France bought cats from breeders, shelters, and pet store. Then he butchered them and cooked them! He got arrested, and apparently he thought "cats tasted good."

You've heard about the illegal Burmese pythons in Florida, and how they're killing animals? Well, someone let go their python and it ended up eating a neighbor's cat. If you can't take care of your pet, you can give it to a shelter. If you can't take care of it and its illegal, you shouldn't of bought it in the first place!!!

People who work or own Puppy Mills force dog to mate and have babies repeatedly, with no concern for the dog's health or social behavior.

People who own Chicken Factories must cut the beaks of the chickens so they don't fight. They do it for money,
but its actually cheaper to let them outside and keep them happy with beaks than keep them outside and unhappy without beaks.

Can you just be nice to animals? You're acting like Judd Travers from Shiloh! And he's an awful person! Don't abandon, hurt, cook [animals like dogs, cats, ect. If you're a vegetarian, that's good too, but that's your choice.], or force animals to have babies! Animals have feelings too!

Iams is cruel

I'm Shadowflower, a new author of this blog. This is my first post, on something I feel very strongly against; Animal Testing.

While surfing the web, I came across horrible situation with the Iams Pet Food company:

"For nearly 10 months in 2002 and early 2003, a PETA investigator worked undercover at Sinclair Research Center, a laboratory hired by Iams, and discovered a dark and sordid secret beneath the wholesome image of the dog- and cat-food manufacturer. Dogs had gone crazy because they were confined to barren steel cages and cement cells, dogs were left piled on a filthy paint-chipped floor after chunks of muscle had been hacked from their thighs, dogs were surgically debarked, and horribly sick dogs and cats were neglected and left in cages to suffer without any veterinary care."

So,

"After intense pressure from PETA and its supporters, Iams agreed to make the following significant changes in its testing program:

Iams agreed to begin conducting humane in-home tests for palatability studies.

Iams bowed to pressure and severed its ties with Sinclair Research Center.

Iams is said to have ended all invasive and terminal experiments on dogs and cats."

But Even Now;

"Iams still keeps up to 700 dogs and cats in its Dayton, Ohio, laboratory for non-invasive nutritional studies. They claim that this laboratory provides a decent environment for the animals, but they refuse to allow a PETA representative to see inside. Iams claims that some studies are too complex for in-home programs, but PETA urges Iams to collaborate with veterinary clinics for studies such as these. Veterinary clinics regularly see patients who suffer from ailments that a particular dog or cat food might help alleviate."

What can I do?

1) I suggest, friends, to not buy Iams' food for a start.

2) Join an online boycott, such as,

Dog Euthanized in Oshawa Animal Cruelty Case

This is a news article from durhamregion.com, from a case that occurred on the eleventh of April:

"Two people are facing animal cruelty charges after the Durham Humane Society discovered a dog in a backyard shed of an Oshawa home.
A German shepherd was removed from the shed, described as "deplorable" living conditions, and taken to a veterinary clinic for assessment and treatment. The dog was later euthanized due to its severely compromised health.
"In this line of work, we see many unfortunate things but to witness such intentional cruelty and the deliberate infliction of so much suffering on an animal is heartbreaking," says Debby Houghton, animal cruelty investigator with the Humane Society of Durham Region.
Two individuals from the Oshawa area have been charged under the Ontario SPCA Act with permitting distress. The first court appearance is scheduled for May 10.
The humane society would release no further details, and withheld the names of those charged."

This is horrible. If you can't look after a pet, don't get one. If you can't look after a pet anymore, don't keep it somewhere you think will be ok for them. Here are some things to do with pets that you just can't take care of anymore:
Find a person that is willing to take care of you pet, but only if you're sure that they will take good care of it,
Ask friends, family and colleagues if they are willing to or know anyone who is willing to take in your pet, only if you check out the new home for your pet first, and finally, if all else fails,
Look for a trustworthy animal shelter that will take your pet in that has good conditions and places for animals.

That's all! But remember, if you are still able to take care of your pet, don't give up on them!

Littering and Kangaroo Skin

Did you know when you litter, there's a big possibility that the trash will end up on an animal neck or being swallowed by an animal? Last month, I saw a goose with something around its neck. I don't think it was supposed to be there.
Also, some people make shoes out of kangaroo skin! How awful is that? Please don't buy these shoes! It's awful enough that they do!

April! Let's Make It A Month To Remember!

As the title says; lets do it! Go out to your pet, somebody elses pet, any animal wild or tame and do somehting kind for it whether it is feeding it, giving it something to do so it's not bored, playing with it or even just giving it a couple pats on the head. Do something nice for an animal--there! Didn't that feel good? Go to your local shelter! Offer to walk a dog, socialize a cat, train one of the animals or even adopt one! Do you have wild bird in your area? Make a bird feeder!
Get a pinecone, cover it in honey, cover the honey with bird seed, oats, barley, wheat, anything you think birds would like.

Do a good deed for the Month Of April. Spread the word! Help animals everywhere!

And to make it better, tell everybody what you did in a comment here!

Mine: Went out and trained all four dogs, played with them. Fed the cats and the birds. Soon to make a Bird Feeder.

Animal Hoarding and Proper Care for Pets

You know how some people say you can never have too much *item*? Well, you can have too many cats, dogs, parrots, hamsters, horses, rabbits, or any pet. When you cannot take care of all your pets, its called Animal Hoarding.
Many of the animals suffer a cruel, sad life. For example, if someone owned too many dogs, starving, wounded, dogs could be one of the reasons not to do it. Many of the animals are not spayed, so many puppies are born, adding to an overpopulation in the world. Many dogs fight, leading to dead dogs. And many of these animals are not cared medically at all. The dogs may have no access to food or water, or they may be fenced outside to live outside. and the excuse "Just one more." is not a good one. One dog could lead to a thousand more.
Animal Hoarders can be charged with huge fines, or even sent to jail. Make sure you only have enough animals that you can care for, not even one over. And get your animal spayed or neutured, unless you are a breeder.These are responsible things for an animal owner.
Here are some things to check if you think you are properly taking care of an animal:

It has access to food and water at all times.
It gets enough exercise.
It does not get in fights with other animals.
If sick, it is taken to the vet.
You give it lots of attention.

If your pet is sick, here are some ways to make sure:

It's not refusing food. This is a big one, since this is the most obvious thing an animal can tell if its sick.
Is it having trouble walking? This could be a sign of a broken back, leg, or an injured back or leg.
Is it having trouble eating? This could be a sign of it having trouble eating.
Is it vomiting repeatedly? It could just have a fever, or be very sick.
Does it have bumpy or flaky skin? This could be acne and/or a skin disease. It may even be an allergy.

In any of these cases, your pet should be taken to the vet.
These are just some ways to avoid being a hoarder, but the biggest thing is that you don't have too many animals! You cannot not be a hoarder without lots of animals, but you can go to jail for not properly taking care of your pet.

Kittens Saved from Owners

I found this story on the ASPCA website, and it has a happy ending.
One day, Kathryn Splittstoeser got a call from her daughter-in-law crying and saying children were carrying dead kittens in cereal boxes and asking neighbors to bury them in their yard. Kathryn got more information on the case and went to talk to the childrens' parents. No one was home when she went there, but many kittens were running around. Many had long, matted fur and were filthy. They had no access to fur or water. Kathryn called the local vet, and was thanked in a phone call and told the kittens were up for adoption. She, of course, adopted one and named it Sassy.

The beginning is sad, but the ending is happy. The kittens didn't suffer anymore, and that's what's important.

Animal Cruelty

Ok, so there have been a few times that people that are authors of this blog have been posting about things that have nothing to do with animals. That "Death to Muffy 1999" was REALLY stupid so I had to delete that author from the blog until they want to post something about animal cruelty. This is not a news blog or a blog where you can post random things. If you want to post about the disaster that is going on in Japan, then make a news blog but DONT post on this animal cruelty blog!! I bet I know what your thinking too, That right now im being a HUGE hypocrite and even I can see that i kinda am, but I just want to point out that we cant post things thats not about animal cruelty other than important announcements that would usually come from the owner of the blog who yeah i know, posts nothing, never comes on the blog Blah blah blah. But I'm still getting a little annoying at the people who are going off topic in there posts and posting about things that have nothing to do with animal cruelty, and if the person that posted the "Death to Muffy" thing I am SO confused about why you posted that...

Tigers!

Today's my birthday, and like the title suggests, I love tigers! Here's what I want for a birthday present:Tigers being saved! So please donate just a few dollars to National Geographic or the World Wildlife Fund. It is estimated only 3,200 tigers are left in the wild. South China Tigers are extinct in the wild, and three subspecies have already gone extinct. We need to save these beautiful creatures, or many of us will never forgive ourselves. Tigers aren't necessarily my favorite animals (Dogs, hamsters, owls, and cats<---This is counts as the tiger family), but I do really like them and couldn't ever go outside if they went extinct. I'm donating $35 so far, and I will donate more.

Understanding Animals

Animals lurk everywhere. As I type this, an animal is in the room where I type. They do the same as I do, and they are writing this as well. The animal is myself. I feel emotion and feel pain. I think one of the reasons why people abuse animals is simple: They do not understand animals feel pain or that they have emotion. Animals emotions does not necessarily mean that they feel the same emotions as us, but that doesn't mean they don't. Here's how I know: If you annoy a dog, it growls at you. It's not necassarily mean it is dominant over you. It just means it doesn't like what you're doing. Here's another example: If you pet a cat gently, the cat will purr. It purrs to show you that it likes what you're doing. If you do something the cat doesn't like, like surprising it, it will hiss at you. It doesn't like what you're doing.
The only thing you need to understand for animals is that they do have emotions. Not always human, but still emotions. Please, please never abuse your animal! I might be doing it a presentation for Animal Cruelty. I will be sure to mention what I have written, plus many other things, like stories and forms of animal cruelty.

Misunderstood

Many animals are misunderstood. Some have earned terrible reputations, and others only mild. Some people think we can help them, while others think we cannot. Some of the animals below are pets, while others are wild. Here are three animals that are misunderstood.

3. Hedgehog

Hedgehogs are thought to really hurt because of their sharp spines. These animals aren't really that misunderstood, but you must agree that many people think their spines hurt. The truth is, no, they don't. I guess if you quickly put your hands on it, it may hurt, but if you do it slowly, it won't hurt!
2. Bats

Bats are thought to be vampires and sometimes even bad luck. The truth is the opposite. These animals are good luck, and are not at all vampires. Little Brown bats can eat up 6,000 bugs in one night, like mosquitoes. So, are they bad luck now? Not all bats eat bugs, though. Some drink blood. However, there's not a big worry there going to suck your blood. The like to drink the blood of cows, pigs, and other ungulates. Other bats eat fruit. They look like dogs, wolves, and foxes, earning them the nickname "Flying Fox".
3. Pit Bulls
Pit Bulls are possibly the most misunderstood animals of all. I used to be scared of them, but one story certainly lightened up the way I thought of them. A woman and her two year-old were walking home from a playground when a man held a knife to them and said not to make any noise. A pit bull lunged at him. The pit bull didn't hurt the man at all, but showed aggressive signs toward him. The man ran off, and the pit bull saved the two.
I still understand they can attack, because they have something called "Lock jaw". This means when they bite you, their jaws can get stuck. However, they are generally loving dogs. You can see they can be great dogs. The pit bull above was named "Angel", because he saved them.

And there you have it. Animals that are misunderstood. Well, I guess I should show one last picture I couldn't resist. It's of a baby hedgehog, and I just can't resist baby animals! You can see the pit bull is a puppy too! So here's the baby hedgehog!

Today's National Hug Day!

Well, that's a rumor, but it's "National Hug Day". That's what we call Thursday at our school. So hug your pet, whether it's a horse, dog, or cat, maybe even rabbits! I don't really advise hugging hamsters and animals about their size, but pet them! So hug your pet all over! I doing that to my dog and I may pet my hamsters...

How to STOP Animal Cruelty

I got a comment saying why we didn't have lots of info on how to save animals. Here was there comment:
I agree, this is bad, but you didn't even say what we can do to HELP, except report to the police, and that's really obvious!!!

My little sister came home from school the other day saying "I want to help prevent animal cruelty!" so I took her to the computer and showed her this blog. She read the last couple of posts, and burst out crying uncontrollably. She was very upset for the rest of the night, and she said she didn't even see anything that would help animal cruelty. PLEASE put more about PREVENTING it in your posts, understand? My mom suggested reporting this to blogger, and I refused to do this! I will if it's necessary!!!!!!!!
Well, so I decided to give them what they wanted. Here are some ways to help abused animals:
Inform Tell people the causes of animal cruelty, cases of animal cruelty, or how to stop animal cruelty.
Report Report any cases that you think the police did not know. This way you could be saving an animal's life, even if it's your friend's pet and they're the abusers.
Donate Donate to your local animal shelter, the ASPCA, or other organizations.
Adopt Adopt an animal from a dire situtation.
Spay/Neuter Spay or neuter your pet unless you breed for a living.
Volunteer Volunteer at an animal shelter.
There are just some ways. Since I don't have complete control over this blog, anonymous, maybe you should report it to the Lead Blogger, who I think is Flamestorm, but thank you for telling me. If your little sister eats meat, tell her she can help by not eating an old meat, so mostly grass fed.

Some AWFUL Cases from the ASPCA

Bella the Chihuahua

Apparently, a man named Frank Coppola was charged for beating and killing his girlfriend's 3 year-old Chihuahua named Bella. This happened a few after the dog nipped his finger, and when Coppola's girlfriend's roommate saw the dog's body, she rushed it to the hospital, where vets say that Bella is officially dead.

Coppola said that the dog had run into a wall, but the injuries do not suggest that.

A necropsy showed that Bella had severe trauma to her chest, internal bleeding, a ruptured jugular vein, and bruised lungs.
Sparky the Pomeranian
A woman was going down the elevator with her 9 pound pomeranian, Sparky. She was charged for animal abuse, but she plead guilty.
Unfortunately,the elevator survillance cameras showed 31 year-old Tiara Davis kicking her 4 year-old dog. Tiara was, as the article said, angry because her dog urinated on the floor. In fact, Davis hit and kicked Sparky so hard that he was knocked out. She was charged with animal cruelty, and so her dog was turned over to the ASPCA, where he is/did recover.
The Cat Nextdoor
In Florida, Margret Fowler was charged of using a mallet to kill the neighbor's cat. Fowler was a vet, but a neighbor saw her hammering a cat serveral times with what looked like a mallet. Fowler than dropped the cat between the two houses. The neighbor approached the cat, realizing that it was her and her boyfriend's cat.
When Fowler was chargered, she said the cat was hit with a car and pulled itself there, between the houses. She said she had just tapped it to confirm its death.
A necrospy was tooken place and showed that the cat had not been hit by a car, but beat with a round, blunt object, mostly having blows to its head and stomach.

These are awful. Please report ANY animal cruelty information to the police. Only ONE animal actually lived in an of these, Sparky!

Abused Horses

Im glad to have became author of this great blog and I am heart broken by this story. The ASPCA rescued over one hundred neglected horses from a farm in Arkansas. There were many dead and sick, most had unhealed wounds and bone fractures. The horses were starved and had no water. The man who had owned them bought horses at acutions and sold them to the public. He is most likely to have more than 100 counts of animal cruelty. This is very sad and all the rescued horses are being treated on site. I hope I never have to hear a story like this tragic event again.

Spay and Neuter/Chickens Eaten By Lions

Hi! I have only discovered this blog recently but am happy to be recognized as an author.
I've noticed quite a few people on this blog (commenting or blogging) think spay and neuter is cruel.
It is not. At all. Why? it helps decrease the number of unwanted pets, so less euthanized or beaten. However, certain animal are not okay spay or neuter. Here are some that are okay to spay/neuter:
1. Dog
2. Cat
3. Horse

A spayed dog.

Also, spay and neuter do not hurt the animal! If you go to a good vet, they should give your animal the same thing that would euthanize an animal (But not an overdose! It should be a safe amount.). Then they will do a safe procedure. Your pet will need to stay over night at the vets office (if it is a dog or cat or an animal about their size), but they will recover by then. That is if you have a good vet!
Also, spay and neuter will decrease the number of pets that die in fights, since they tend to fight a lot less than their unaltered brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and cousins.
This Week's Cruel Story
So, I was listening to my favorite podcast, RadioLab, and it was something called "Zoo" or something. Well, in China, apparently there's this bus that drives straight into the Lion's Pit. Well, you buy a chicken. Then you open the window and throw the chicken out! The chickens try to get away, but the lions get to them and tear them apart. Who's fault is this? Well, it's not the lions because that's what they eat. And it's not the chickens...It's the humans' faults.
Isn't that cruel? I absolutely am saddened by this tale, and this is coming from someone who mostly specializes in domestic mammals, not birds. But this is any absolutely cruel tale, and those chickens died a cruel death.

It seems we are never far from some kind of animal cruelty. The horrible reality is that this happens in our own cities. Everyone knows the infamous story including a woman, a cat and a bin. This is pretty tame to other stories we are bombarded with, such as the woman who threw a litter of six puppies into a river. One Saturday Neil Rodgers let his two beagles, Annie and Buttercup, run loose for the night. The next morning he discovered that someone had skinned Annie and and cut Buttercup around her shoulders and neck. Annie had to be euthanized due to the lack of skin left on her. I have heard of a family near my home who hung their dog by its own lead. My own dog has been threatened, my dad turned to see two 12 year olds holding a can of spray paint to her face. It baffles me how animals are treated by some humans today, surely people shouldn't be so sadistic and ignorant. I believe that we should be education younger people, to teach them to treat animals with respect. As a "civilized society" this should not be happening.

In my last post, it has been labelled awful. I'm not sure if people think I was attacking PeTA. This was not my intention. I tried to convey a balanced argument, I am a member and believe we can reform this corrupt organisation.

Hello there, my name is Jessica Brown and I'm now a contributor to this blog. I'm proud to be part of such an amazing project. I do have another blog, which is very different from this one. However recently I have been posting about animal cruelty. I had made a post about PeTA and their darker side which I would like to share here as well:

As I have said I joined PeTA yesterday and since been researching it. It has left me feeling quite conflicted. I agree with some of their efforts, I believe animals shouldn't be killed for their skin, animals shouldn't be hunted for fun, all animals should be treated with respect. However, it seems some of PeTA's views are very radical and ignorant.

They believe animals should not be tested on. Which to me is ridiculous, the pro's outweigh the con's. We have made so many advancements with the help of animal testing. PeTA believe animals should not be kept as pets or even used to guide the blind. I won't even comment on such a claim. They believe no animal should be killed for food. Humans have survived by abiding to the food chain. I believe too many animals are killed creating a surfeit. It depends on the individual, would you rather have a surfeit where some are killed for no reason or have meat in abundance.

PeTA kill a lot of animals without reason, with a $33 million annual budget animals should be homed. However, 90% of these are euthanized. They spend too much money on adverts and getting celebrities to join their cause. Maybe this is a case of a Utopian idea that has since become corrupted and disillusioned. Or is it like any organisation, having a some members who push boundaries too far?

I believe they have some good ideas and they have achieved a lot of great things but like everything, they have a fair few dark secrets (that they refuse to comment on). All people with a belief and a goal want to find others who share their way of thinking. They want to group together and discuss their views, protests and actions. We like to be around those who understand us. The people for the ethical treatment of animals provides this, but brainwashes some into adopting anarchistic beliefs.

I feel pretty cheated to be honest and shocked. I held a lot of respect for this organisation.

Unchained Dog Month

Hey guys! I haven't posted in a while but a friend told me about something called "Unchained Dog" month.

PETA is encouraging people to let there "Backyard" dogs to stay inside so they dont suffer from the cold. Dogs can suffer from Frostbite Exposure and Dehydration. Chained or penned up dogs have nowhere to go to escape the cold and snow. January is "Unchained Dog Month" so make sure you let your dogs inside so they can stay warm and loved through the winter.

I haven't posted a while on voice but my friend, you may know her from comments and things on this blog Megann/Candymeadowsalmondjoy, She saved 2 horses lives!!

The story is....

A few days ago she went to see her horse joy. When they were driving in they saw 2 loose horses running around. She grabbed an apple and jumped out of the car. when they saw her the horse started to move away. One of them jumped a big snowbank and the other one followed. She climbed up and over it. when she got to the top she saw one of the horses running to the road where a paper truck was coming with 3 trucks behind it. she started sprinting, watching the horse walk into the road. Finally she got to the road when the horse was about to walk across. She moved it out of the road where it met up with his buddy who was watching everything. She herded them back threw 2 yards back to the barn where she finally got ahold of them and put then in their stall at the barn then she figured out how they got out! the latch had been left open! once they were in their stall she gave them the apple. and then they called the farm owner to tell him what happened.

Everyone can make a difference in the world. Megann did, she saved 2 lives. Anyone can do that by making one phone call or helping a lost or homeless animal. This is really good inspiration for anyone who wants too make a difference.

Another Tale of Cruelty

Hey guys, I'm Feather. I've just recently discovered Voice: Bloggers Against Animal Cruelty. I am so glad I was made an author here, so thanks. You may not have realised, but animal cruelty is everywhere. There are thousands of animals being treated unfairly almost every day, being pressured, being tested on, being trapped behind the bars of a lonely cage. And yes, we can help, but some of us choose not to.

It was just yesterday when I heard a story from my friend. An old man walked into a shop, leaving his dog tied on a leash to one of those short, stumpy poles. A couple of teenagers saw the dog and set off to work. They untied the leash, undid its collar, then deliberately tied the collar to one end of the pole, leaving the dog choked and unable to move. The dog had a too large and loose collar, so the teens took that advantage.

My friend told me that she was spreading the story, and that she hadn't been the one to see it, but had been told by a friend who wasn't the one to see it either. Whether this story is false or real, it just shows that animals all over the world, have been harmed on purpose, or for no reason (as the story above).

So I'm really proud of this blog, and its authors for contributing. I hope you do realise how special animals are, and that they have feelings just like us.

Boy kills kittens

Every once in a while, a story about animal cruelty like this will come along. And it makes a girl sad. Very, very sad.

Bisexual porn star Luka Magnotta has been identified as releasing a video of himself killing two cats by putting them in an airtight bag and sucking the air out with a vacuum cleaner. According to the Daily Mail:

The mewing kittens can be seen wriggling around and clawing to escape as the polythene tightens around them. After switching off the cleaner, the sick teen opens the bag and proudly holds up the body of one of the kittens for his camera, before displaying them on his bed.

After the video hit YouTube with the deplorable title “1 Boy, 2 Kittens”, P.E.T.A., animal rights activists — and anyone with a heart — teamed up to take this guy down. And even though he’s been identified, he hasn’t been caught yet.

Factory Farms

First of all, sorry I haven't posted in a while. For some of you newer followers, you might not know who I am. So let me introduce myself, I am author4evr. Second of all, factory farms have probably been written about before, so you don't have to let me know that in the comments or anything. I just think it's a really important topic because the products produced have effects on everyone, including you.

What are factory farms, you might ask? A factory farm is a large industrial operation that has a lot (hundreds or thousands) of animals like chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows. It's very cramped for the animals, and the people treat them poorly. What's sad is that these animals rarely or have never seen daylight. They live short lives full of pain. And because the animals aren't taken care of properly, the quality is poor for the food like dairy, eggs, and meat. The people who run the factory only care about how much of the food is produced. Thus, the produced products are lower quality than healthy animals raised in good environments produce.

Five things that occur in factory farms are:

The animal are given a constant feeding of antibiotics to prevent disease. People drinking dairy and eating meat products from factory farms may develop immunities to antibiotics and then lose the ability to fight certain types of bacteria.
Controlled light cycles to simulate longer or shorter days. This confuses an animal's body and sadly forces an unnatural growth response.
Altering the animals to prevent them from acting out on the aggression and anxiety caused by living in such extreme restriction.
Forcing breeding animals to reproduce at unnaturally fast rates, causing the animals to be tired, have more stress, and early deaths among them.
Rough transportation of livestock to slaughterhouses. Sick or injured animal who fall or die on the way to the slaughterhouses are forced onto slaughter trucks-most often with a bulldozer.

Having so many animals in one place creates a lot of waste, more than the surrounding land can handle! As a result, factory farms are associated with environmental hazards, such pollution (water, land and air). Also people who live close to factory farms often complain of high cases of illness.

To conclude, make sure you know where the products you buy come from. You can make a difference by doing many things, such as buying some foods from small local farms. Make sure you buy foods with the Certified Humane Raised & Handled® label administered by Humane Farm Animal Care.

Cruelty Update: Dismembered Cats and Cock Fighting

All-around cruelty is obvious. It happens everywhere at every time. Barely a moment goes by when an animal isn't suffering to human arrogance, or worse, on purpose.
   There is always local news that reaches our ears that we usually push away and try to forget, but you can't push it away. You have to listen, learn, and understand. Listen to what people have to say. Learn about the problem and how to deal with it. And understand what was just said.

WARNING: NOT FOR THE LIGHT OF HEART

In a recent cruelty case, 26 roosters were rescued from a disaster of a cock-fight.
   When police arrived, there was a boy near the cock-fighting ring and a man holding a rooster. The man claimed to have just taken a look at the rooster, but the signs of a fight were so obvious, even the most ignorant person could tell what had happened. Blood lay splattered across the floor, feathers sprawled about like carpeting. Ten roosters with missing feathers sat, with fear, their wings matted with sticky scarlet blood. Steroids and vitamins were placed here or there without any care.
   They all went to jail and were forced to surrender their birds. Sadly, due to their horrible conditions, the birds were later euthanized.

So there you half it. Just one of the many terrible issues in our community. Yours, mine, and everyone's.

Would you believe that there are even sicker things than that? Well, if you don't mind gagging, you can read what's below.

It started off as a normal case. A neighbor called for a barking dog across the street and an absent home. The officers didn't expect what they were going to see though.
   Locked in a closet, hidden by tools, was a starving cat. Skinny, stick-legged cat.
   Behind that cat were more... accept these other cats were dead. They were dismembered, as if someone had cut off their limbs to eat them. One cat only had a head left. It's revolting to imagine such a scene. Feces among the ground, living in a damp, dark, cold environment, watching your cousins die one by one, screams and cries, and finally... your owner leaves you to die.
   The good news is that the woman was fined $100,000... for EACH ANIMAL HARMED!

So justice has been done, but many issues are left unknown.

There's a corner house not far from where I live where there are pitbulls lurking around. I easily suspect dog-fighting, but I don't know. It's most likely. If I even see anything that makes me more suspicious, I'm calling the police right away!

Please. Act. When. You. Can.

Don't hesitate to save a life. After all, it's in your hands... all you have to do is dial the number.

Oh, the circus!!!

Most of us have been to the circus one time or another. But, do you really know what goes on behind the curtain? Did you know that the baby elephants are tortured and electrocuted if they try to play? I can't speak for all circuses but I know of one for certain. The Ringling Bros. The video I am about to show you makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. I'm not sure whether I really want to put it on here at all, but it is my responsibility to show you all how upsetting animal cruelty is. This is a video of a teenager throwing five puppies to their death. She heartlessly throws them, SMILING, into a river. These puppies are about two weeks old, maybe younger. They can't swim at that age. I cried when I watched this video.

The Voice of the Ocean

Far beyond the pastures of grass and miles away from the warmest woodland you can find something that differs from what you could think. Another world that might even be at your very fingertips. It's a spectacular place with unexplainable life. It's clouds are the pounding waves that crash back to where they once flowed as a silent atmosphere. Its winds are the powerful currents that drag the seaweed back and forth, guiding the jellyfish and tugging on the sandy floor. Its sky is the atmosphere itself. It's a place where every animal can glide through the bellowing waves and slice through the kind waters. In this place, there are no rules on how an animal can be shaped or how a mammal may swallow its prey. There is no right or wrong, only a when and where. This place is the ocean, and it is beyond our wildest imaginations.

Manatees graze on the sea grass as tuna follow their group away from danger. Sharks sneak through the waters listening for even the slightest sign of prey. Manta rays glide through the blue-tinted waters in search of their next meal. It's a dangerous, yet beautiful place.

The ocean has an odd way of speaking. It does not have a mouth, ears, lungs or eyes. It itself is nothing without the life that survives there. The life that lives there speaks for itself, and it speaks loud and clear. To its saddest desires, weakest hopes, and limpest feelings, us humans can try and try, but it will always be difficult to make out the words it speaks. We will never hear the voice of some animals, while we will struggle to find a home for others. While one animal sits on a picture-perfect rock cracking clams on its stomach, others sit in the dark, voicing but a whisper.

The silver lining of waves is often contaminated with transparent water bottles, musky oil, and filthy fishing lines. Sometimes large tarps and dead fish drape the ocean, suffocating what lives underneath.

What lives is not always what speaks, but somehow nature always finds a bright side. The animals of the ocean will live on. They will always talk with their soundless voices and move with their bold bodies. What truly gives them the will to live is the fact that life itself is possible, and if humans were the same the world might be a different place.

Let's try our best to help the ocean create words that are more understandable. Let's clip the plastic circles that hurt the fish and mammals. Let's recycle our trash so it doesn't crash on the ocean floor and disturb the life that tries to live. Let's use less of this and less of that, more of this and more of that. With everything that we have to lose, and everything that we have to win, it's time to help anything and everything.

We need to be the voice of the ocean.

Glue Traps

Sometimes the worst thing someone can do is not know what they're doing. Sometimes the most harmful thing someone does is something

that makes it easier not to harm one's self. Sometimes, people buy glue traps.

What's a Glue Trap?

A glue trap is what it sounds like. It is a platform with a sticky adhesive that is used to trap small animals such as mice, rats, and bugs.

They're much more cruel then they sound though. This is why:

Small animals will wonder around the corridors of our lives and come across a dark platform with some of their favorite foods on it. They sniff it, then crawl over the platform. They feel something sticky weighing them down, but they ignore it and go for the food. It's then they realize that they can't reach it.

They try to move so they roll around a bit, only making things worse. They end up lying in their own feces even.

It isn't long before they are smothered in clear glue that traps their mouthes so they slowly starve to death, die of thirst, or if their face is pressed against the ground, they die because of lack of oxygen.

Sometimes, small animals wander there by accident (such as kittens, puppies, etc) and die the same death.

It's a slow, painful death, especially since the trap makes no noise to alert the person who had set it. It's even more terrible if someone forgets where the trap is, is to lazy to clear it, or just ignores it.

Please, in the name of all that is humane, don't buy glue traps!

A Re-Introduction, Cruelty Cases, And Merry Christmas

Dear Readers,

A long time ago I wrote on Voice. I really enjoyed writing, but eventually I quit. Now I'm back and ready to write! You may have seen my first two posts (C ruelty Case Updates & Applause for Fighters of Animal Cruelty) and I hope you enjoy them. I worked very hard to find the information and write it out.

I'm sorry I have made a late introduction, but I'm sure you can forgive me. I also want to welcome the newest author, NatureFreak!

So with the new authors (including myself) I think we can make this blog the best it can be. Thank you authors of Voice, and I hope you welcome me with open paws!

The next thing I would like to write about (so I don't make this post pointless to my fellow fighters of cruelty) is some cruelty cases.

Warning: Disturbing

An investigation is going on who's victims are two abandoned pitbulls, another stuck to a five-foot chain, and several others. Investigators still aren't quite sure who left the dogs alone,but

they're doing their best to find out.

A neighbor claims that the owners had raised pit bulls and recently left, leaving eight or nine of them to roam on their own. One of them died and several others had run away. Two pitbulls that were left to die had no food or water. Good thing the police got there in time!

The neighbors also say that the last time they saw someone take care of the animals was November 11th.

To think that if they would have called sooner, the dogs could have been helped quicker. At least they decided to take action now!

Animal Control recently saved sixty dogs and a bird from dangerous, filthy conditions. They were left in a nasty environment that was infested with fleas and other vermin.

The owner was 65 and from the looks of it, she has a hoarding problem (most people with that many dogs do).

The vets took the dogs and bird to the vet and had them treated for numerous skin conditions caused by the unsanitary living conditions.

The officers earned custody of eight dogs and the bird, but also removed the others do to the environment the animals were basically slaves to.

Don't Be Afraid

If you know about animal cruelty happening near you and are afraid to call the police, don't hesitate to do so. You won't just be saving a life, you'll be saving lives. It can be hard if it's a friend or a relative, but the world will be proud of you, and you'll be proud of yourself!

A woman in New Zealand had an awful surprise when she opened her door. Her two month old kitten had been grabbed around the neck, and thrown against her wall until it died. It had blood streaming out of it's eyes and was lying in a pool of blood when it was found.

Ryan B. came home one day after a phone call from his neighbor saying something in his backyard was on fire. When he saw, he immediately burst into tears. Someone had thrown gasoline on his dog's kennel, and set it on fire. He said that his dog was like his baby and that the suffering that would have been brought was unimaginable. He thinks that death by fire is the worst kind of death because you can feel everything and it brings incredible pain. Everyone in the neighborhood loved the dog, as it was tremensely friendly. He still cannot believe that someone would torture his only companion in this way.

Warning: Disturbing Cruelty Cases Below!

What do you do when you're mad a your loved one and the dog is there? Certainly you don't shoot it several times and kill it! Well, apparently to a man named "Cook" had a different idea.

Cook was angry about drug charges and was arguing with his girlfriend and picked up pistol, threatening to shoot her. She said she didn't care so he pointed it to their pit-bull, Brandy. He shot the dog several times and it ran to the bathroom to hide. He shot it in the head to end its life. He went in the room and rapped the dog up in the blanket while the woman ran to her neighbor's house where she called the police who arrested Cook who faced a charge of aggravated assault and animal cruelty.

When a bear fights your dog, the last thing you should do is chase down the bear, strike it, and shoot it dead-especially if it's a threatened species! Apparently to this man, Ryan, the law doesn't apply to him.

Ryan's dog, Tigger, got in a fight with a black bear (a problem that could have been prevented if Ryan would have listened to the warnings and kept his food inside) and Ryan was so angry he went on a rampage and ran over the bear three times before shooting it.

The wife said that Ryan was so upset by the gash in Tigger's head (Tigger survived, by the way) that he chased the bear by truck and out of sight.

The neighbor had said, quote, "He just went crazy," and as did others.

He plead guilty and had to pay a $500 dollar fine which would got to wildlife. He was recently released from jail, and let's hope he remembers to keep his food in his house where it belongs!

George Outlaw has a different idea of what's good and bad. In his head, terribly treated pit bulls and a cat in the fridge is just what he needs to have a good day.

George was arrested with 10 counts of animal cruelty. His pitbulls had barely any shelter outside, and they didn't have access to food or water. They were extremely malnourished and deserved much better.

What shocked investigators and reporters most was the dead cat in his fridge. It had been skinned and its head was missing. Police suspect dog fighting, but no comments were made on the matter.

Along with all of this, he had drugs stacked about in his home. One of many reasons someone might train a helpless pitbull to make cruel acts.

The good that came out of his is his huge fine and his sentence in prison.

Applause for Cruelty Fighters (Tips To Help Your Community)

In this world, there are people who fight fire, people who fight sickness, people who fight crime, and people who fight people. In that same list is something that we're doing at this blog: fighting animal cruelty.

This blog has inspired lots of people to do lots of things to help their animal community! Whether it be recycling, using less water bottles, cutting up the plastic rings that your soda comes in, helping some dogs out of a hot car, or just helping a toad out of the chlorine-filled pool.

Every act is an act of kindness. Every act makes a difference.

So let's give a big round of applause for the people who have fought animal cruelty! The world is a beautiful place if we make it that way, and these people-young and old-are filling up the glass half full.

Here are some very simple things you can do that can help fight animal cruelty:

Write/sign a petition to help stop some form of cruelty
Help inform others about the harm animal cruelty can do
Watch shows on animal welfare
Treat your pet with respect and try to see things from its point of view
Research animals and use that knowledge to your advantage

And those are just some of the many ways to help. Sometimes people do things even bigger!

Did you know that by helping animals that aren't treated badly, you can also help animals that are treated badly? Even if it just helps a pet get a better life, it makes a difference.

A pair of teenaged girls I knew had wrote out a plan (and are going to use it) to build a dog park in their community! Even if that doesn't help animals treated cruelly, imagine what good it will do for the people who need a place to take their dog for some fun?
By running a pet drive (where you give food and toys to pets) my girl scout troop and myself were able to get three cart-loads of things to help foster pets! Also, we helped get some foster dogs adopted out (this took place at Petsmart).

Little things make a big difference, and some things that you can do are closer than you imagine.

Unhealthy Cats

Dear Animal Lovers,

My cat recently was restricted to a DIET!! Because she is way over weight! Its unhealthy for a cat to be over weight because it makes them less active and there joints could cramp up! Make sure your feeding your pets the proper amount of food..... Annoyingly she meows every morning for food and races upstairs when she hears the crackle of a chip bag hoping that someone might be feeding her. If your thinking of getting a pet or just got one or even had pets for a long time. You should always check and be sure that your pet is getting the right amount of food everyday.

ASPCA aka: American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has a day where you have to wear orange. I am not sure if that was only 2007, but on April 10, you wear orange to show respect for ASPCA who has helped many animals. If you have extra money, donate to them! It really helps! There are 5-7 MILLION animals in the shelter every year so every penny counts! (Link on the sidebar) On April 9 (a day before) I will make this a button, so you can put this on your blog if you wear orange! Good idea? Thank you!

Dear Voice Followers,

Pit Bulls are taken as the most violent... strong fighting dog alive. And are forced to fight in illegal dog fights... just yesterday at my friends house, i saw 2 pit bulls who are badly treated and hit by herself and her parents. I was sick of seeing her puppy Max a red nose pitbull bet beat up so i started to give him some T.L.C (tender loving care) and pet him. My friend stared at me for a few minutes and said "Dont be so nice you should hit him more" and then before i could reply said, "watch this" and pulled out a broom and.. well you can guess the rest. I was sickened by the way she treated her poor puppy.. so i called the police in my area (after i got home).... and they came over to inspect the dog.. with the local vet. They did and the dog has 3 cuts on his belly from FIGHTING with another dog!! So they took it away and now he is up for adoption in the local shelter... i hope someone loving adopts him. Its terrible when a dog is miss treated at a young age. There are little acts you can do at home to stop animal cruelty you dont have to right a letter to the president or start a big act.. just phoning the local police if you think something is happening near you can save an animal from cruel people.

Madeleine Pickens, an activist for American's wild mustangs and burros, is on a mission. She is trying to collect 20,000 letters for her cause by September 1st (which is coming soon, so act now!)- which she will then hand deliver to Washington DC {eventually to President Barack Obama, Ken Salazar (Secretary of the Interior), Robert V. Abbey (a director)} on the back of one of her rescued mustangs, called Pony Express. The officials can't delete emails or unplug phones anymore! But if some of you are wondering just why Madeleine wants to stop this, read this excerpt from her website:

"For the millions of people who are unaware of the roundup process, here it is: The Bureau of Land Management, a branch of the Department of the Interior, has scheduled the removal of America’s wild horses and are attempting to change the grazing rights to be cattle only on the BLM owned land, which leave our wild horses homeless. 100 years ago there were 2 million horses. Now, because of these roundups, there are only 30,000 left. They contract low-flying helicopters to taunt and scare the mustangs, separating them from their families, and eventually coerced into tiny pens. The mustangs are then taken off to holding facilities where they no longer have room to roam anymore. They will be moved to a short-term holding facility for up to three years if not adopted out or sold to a buyer that intends on using the wild horse for slaughter."

My mom needed to go to the mall today to exchange some clothes. After parking the car, we heard this barking from the car next to us. We peeked in to see this terrier and yorkie NOT MOVING. So we called the cops and got them a bucket of water from the store. When we came out again and opened the door, a wall of heat came out. It looked like the yorkie was almost dead and he terrier didn't look to good either. We fed them water and soon the police came. Luckily the dogs will live and the owners will be facing animal cruelty charges. Sadly though, sometimes animals aren't so lucky. Lots of animals are left in cars with no air and do die of heat. Isn't that terrible!

You love your pet cat and shower her with affection. Unfortunately, not every animal receives such tender treatment from its owner. Every day, thousands of animals are subjected to cruel treatment from the people they rely on for proper care. It is heartbreaking to think about, but there are steps you can take to help prevent such acts of cruelty. Annemarie Lucas, animal humane law enforcements supervisory special investigator for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, offers these tips for recognizing and preventing animal cruelty.
1. Learn to recognize animal cruelty. While some signs of cruelty are immediately obvious, such as an owner physically abusing an animal, other symptoms of abuse are more subtle. Be aware of these signs:
Severe tick or flea infestations.
Obvious wounds on the animals body.
An animal that limps or favors a leg.
Extremely thin or starving animals.
Patches of missing hair on the animals body.
Dogs chained up in a yard without access to food, water or shelter.
Animals that act fearfully or aggressively around their owners.
2. Report acts of animal cruelty. Animal humane officers would not know about instances of animal cruelty without reports from concerned citizens. If you suspect an animal in your neighborhood is being abused, report it to the proper authorities.
3. Know how to report animal cruelty. While some cities employ animal humane law enforcement officers, not every city has dedicated staff to investigate and arrest people who commit acts of animal cruelty. You may need to call your citys police department or contact the local animal control office. If you're not sure who to call, ask your local animal shelter.
4. Give as much information as possible. When you call to report an act of animal cruelty, try to give the investigating officer as many details as possible. Write down what you witnessed, and include details such as the breed of dog, who was involved, the date of the incident and the location. The more information you provide, the better.

5. Know your states animal cruelty laws. Your city may have its own ordinances about animal cruelty, too. If you're not sure of the laws in your state, you can get an overview of laws in all 50 states from the ASPCA.
6. Treat your own animals with love. Set a good example for other pet owners by providing good care for your pets. Remember that good care is more than food, water and shelter. Proper care includes regular veterinary visits, daily attention and plenty of affection.
7. Teach your children to treat animals with respect. By learning how to properly care for pets when young, your children will be responsible pet owners as adults. Explain why your animals need daily food and water, describe the benefits of regular veterinary care and show by example how to treat your pets with love.
8. Support your local animal shelter. Consider volunteering your time at your local shelter. If you can't bring yourself to work directly at the shelter, consider opening your home to foster pets, or find a way to help that doesn't involve interaction with the animals.
If all pet owners took small steps to prevent animal cruelty in their neighborhoods, think how many animals lives could be saved. Take steps today to prevent animal cruelty where you live.

ASPCA- Are they really FOR animals?

Last year in New York City, a pit bull named Oreo was intentionally thrown from the sixth floor of a building. The person responsible was convicted of this deed, and neighbors reported hearing him beat the dog too.

The APSCA of New York ‘rescued’ Oreo and healed his injuries. However, according to the organization, a few weeks later, Oreo began showing aggression towards people. He hadn’t been tested with other dogs but was said to be aggressive with other dogs too. Several temperament tests conducted by the APSCA showed the pit bull was very aggressive. PetsAlive, a rescue in Colorado, offered to adopt the dog after the New York Times ran a story about Oreo the day before her scheduled execution. This rescue takes in ‘aggressive’ dogs and tries to rehabilitate or cure the aggression. Dogs that cannot be ‘cured’ are not put down.

The ASPCA ignored the offer to rescue Oreo. Instead, the dog was murdered- by Ed Sayres, president of the organization. The ASPCA has refused to share the videos of Oreo's temperament testing.

In this picture taken just minutes before Oreo was euthanized, you can see that he was not the aggressive, vicious dog the APSCA deemed him.

Soon after, Ed Sayres put down another dog named Max. A rescue group had also offered to adopt him.

After Oreo’s death, New York legislators introduced a bill to prevent animals from being killed in shelters when a rescue offers to adopt them. This bill was put on hold- tabled for the year.

This bill is greatly needed. New York state shelters routinely turn away rescue groups then euthanize those animals. A statewide survey showed that 72% of rescue groups were denied animals. Seventy one percent reported that the shelters instead killed those animals. Fifty two percent of the rescues surveyed don’t report cruelty the see at shelters for fear of not being able to rescue those pets anymore.

We may not be able to vote. We may seem to adults as hormonal, incapable kids- despite the fact that we are not. But we still CAN help animals, so that dogs like Oreo will have a second chance.

The heavens are filling up...mankind is filling it.
We murder animals, they are our brothers and

We are filling up the heavens with innocent souls, that died in a

Bunny Cruelty

Pretend you're a bunny on someone's front lawn. The owner comes out and you stare at them with your big eyes. The person pulls out a BB gun and shoots you. You bleed to death.

That's what some people are going to be doing soon in Orange County, California. The city council has allowed owners to shoot rabbits with BB guns if they don't want them on your lawn. This is what one bunny may look like...and I must warn you, it may startle some people.

Stop hurting these precious bunnies!

The organization was founded in 1977 under the name Earth Force Society by Paul Watson, an early member of Greenpeace, after a dispute with that organization over what Watson saw as its lack of more aggressive intervention.^[1] It has received support for its tactics against fishing, whaling, and seal hunting from an assortment of celebrities, while critics have condemned the violent nature of the actions.^[2]^[3] Various governments and organizations (and even members of the society) have referred to the group as pirates.

Operations have included scuttling and disabling whaling vessels at harbor, intervening in Canadian seal hunts, ramming other vessels, trying to temporarily blind or disorient whalers with a laser device,^[4]^[5] throwing bottles of foul-smelling butyric acid onto vessels at sea,^[5] boarding of whaling vessels while at sea, and seizure and destruction of drift nets at sea. Sea Shepherd claims that their aggressive actions are necessary as the international community has shown itself unwilling or unable to stop species-endangering whaling and fishing practices.^[6] Some governments and organizations have referred to them as terrorists.^[5]^[7]^[8]

In 2008, Animal Planet began filming the weekly series Whale Wars based on the group's encounters with the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean, a development which brought the group much publicity.

Facts about Japan's Slaughter of Whales:

In 2007-8, Japan will be carrying out their Antarctic "scientific whaling" program which they call JARPA II (i.e., Japan Whale Research Program under Special Permit in the Antarctic). For the 2007-8 period, they will be targeting 50 fin and 50 humpback whales - both are protected under the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES). They also plan to kill 935 piked (Minke) whales.
Japan's whaling program detailed above was presented for vote to the International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting in South Korea, June 2005, and was rejected. Despite losing the vote, Japan is proceeding with its JARPA II program.
Japan is exploiting a loophole in the International Regulation of Whaling Convention which was never intended to allow a commercial slaughter.
Japan and Norway have slaughtered more than 25,000 whales under the "scientific whaling" loophole in the last 25 years.
Japan heavily promotes the consumption of whale meat - they have introduced whale meat to their school lunch programs and sell whale meat in markets and sushi restaurants. So there I was, minding my own buisness, searching the news, when I found this article;

Fremont man arrested in 'horrific' animal cruelty case

So like any other peson, I clicked on it. And this was on of the first few sentences;

"There were multiple animals that had been decapitated," he said. "I don't think you're ever really prepared to see situations like this."

And I was thinking...

"Sicko!!!"

After reading the rest of the article (which was awful), it said that they would never know how many animals he killed because there were so many decapitated bones in his house/yard. From what I read, I'm guessing he killed at least 50 animals minimal.

Bull Riding-Cruel is the Word-And Fishing for Sport

Bull Riding is (what I think) a horrible, cruel sport where the bulls are annoyed (yanking parts of the body and teasing are two ways to annoy the bulls) and then someone is put on the animal to ride them. They try not to fall off while the angry bull bucks and swings the person around. Every time I see someone get hurt because they were playing the bull ride-game, I'm more than happy.

Please don't go watch bull riding-the animals suffer!

One thing that is very often argued is if fishing for sport (not eating the animal, just throwing it back) is cruel or not. I think it's very cruel. You are putting a hook into an animal's mouth, taking it out of water when it needs water to live, ripping it out of their mouth, and throwing them smack back into the water. I do believe that fish have feelings-I believe all animals do-and that's why it's on this blog. I think that fishing for sport is animal cruelty. Though there isn't much I can do, I CAN just not fish at all. I haven't fished in years, and I don't plan to.

Please, don't fish-for the fish.

Cock Fighting Cruelty

You may or may not have heard of the horrible "sport" called Cock Fighting. If you haven't, then here's what it is:

Cock fighting is a group "activity" in which people take their roosters and force them to fight each-other. People usually bet on what rooster will win. Usually it's fight-till-the-death.

This cruel act is against the law (as it should be) but (like pit bull fighting) is still happening everywhere. Animals every day are put in a small ring and bet on.

To help, if you see a cock fight or know about one, call the police as soon as possible.

The Supreme Court issued a decision on April 20, 2010 declaring a federal law against the creation, sale or possession of depictions of animal cruelty for commercial gain to be "substantially overbroad, and therefore invalid under the First Amendment." In June 2009, ALDF filed an amicus curiae brief in this case, United States v. Stevens, and ALDF attorneys continue to be active on this legislative issue.

In response to the Supreme Court's decision, new federal legislation has been introduced by Representative Elton Gallegly (R-CA) that will prohibit the sale, or offering for sale, of animal crush videos in interstate or foreign commerce.

"Crush videos" cater to s**ual fetishists who want to watch and hear animals being crushed to death - usually by women wearing spiked heels. The clandestine and anonymous nature of their filming, along with statutes of limitations, severely limits law enforcement's ability to pursue the individuals engaging in these heinous criminal cruelties at the level of conduct. A law targeting the market for these abhorrent depictions gives law enforcement a much-needed tool for stemming the proliferation of these videos.

I was Driving down the road with my mother to the doctors, when i decided to look out of the window. So, There, on the side of the road, was a DEAD PUPPY, not run over, or nothing, with this man standing there, kicking it. I couldnt belive my eyes. it wasnt a dream. In fact, This was Yesterday, On Memorial day. I Was really tempted to yell out the window at the unruly man, but my tonsilitis stopped me. I Closed my eyes to block out the sight, and then it was gone down the road, because we had driven past it. And on the way back, the man was gone, but the puppy was still there, and worse, it was TIED TO A FENCEPOLE. This may sound far fetched, but i assure you, it is true. And it surprises me, even though i love in portland......Its hard to belive, but.....i think the man killed the puppy.

And just so this has something to do with animal cruelty: Pet Land claims they don't buy from puppy mills but they do. A way to help is to not buy from that cruel store, as well as make sure the word gets out. Please, don't pity a mill dog... help one.

Update: Serendipity is a funny thing. Just a few hours after I posted this, I noticed that the University of Georgia Law Student Animal Defense Fund Chapter is highlighting a campaign by the Center for Biological Diversity to make rattlesnake roundups illegal in Georgia. If you live in Georgia, please take a second to sign on to their effort, and even if you don't live in Georgia, they have a pretty solid sample letter that you can use to start the fight against rattlesnake roundups where you live.
By the time the audience gets settled down and the barrels are rolled out, most of the snakes couldn't attack if they wanted to. They're starved and weakened, dehydrated, half-suffocated. Sometimes, they're completely suffocated, because there isn't a lot of air when you're at the bottom of the tank, locked in and trapped under the bodies of dozens like you.

A woman in Georgia was arrested last week for forcing her 12-year-old son to kill his pet hamster with a hammer.
The boy was being punished for bad grades. He told his teacher about it the next day, who reported the incident to authorities.

Who was a likely repeat customer for some of the 27,000 neglected animals that were recently rescued from U.S. Global Exotics' Texas warehouse? The answer is no surprise: Petland.
On the hypocritically titled webpage Pet Welfare at Petland the company says they are "aware of the many animal welfare issues in the news today." That makes sense, considering many of the stories have to do with Petland.
As recently as June 2009, Humane Society investigators confirmed that the company continues to support puppy mills, despite class action lawsuits over selling unhealthy puppies in at least 20 states. Then there was the story last summer of Petland employees who killed two rabbits, who had injured themselves fighting in their cage, by drowning them in the sink ... and then took pictures of themselves with the dead animals.
Now there's the U.S. Global Exotics debacle. Petland's major competitors, Petco and PetSmart, were not customers of U.S. Global Exotics, although they do sell some live animals. Unlike the others, Petland is one of the few national chains that still sells puppies and, with this latest story, they've shown again and again that they make purchasing decisions that have nothing to do with the well-being of the animals. As far as Petland is concerned, animals are just products that can be bought cheaply, warehoused, and sold for a profit.

Across the U.S., millions of pigs and other animals too sick to stand (commonly referred to as "downed animals") suffer terribly at farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses. They are left for hours or days without receiving proper veterinary care, and they are often dragged with chains or pushed with forklifts. Farm Sanctuary has worked to document and end the abuses of downed animals since 1986, and we’re making progress. Last year, the Obama administration tightened up federal regulations to prevent downed cattle from being slaughtered and used for human food. But, this policy needs to be expanded and applied to pigs and other animals who continue to suffer unnecessarily.

In the largest raid in U.S. history, more than 27,000 animals were rescued in December from an exotic pet dealer in Texas. Earlier this month, the sloths, chinchillas, lemurs, hedgehogs, ferrets, snakes, lizards, spiders, and other assorted species officials removed had their day in court.
Municipal Judge Michael Smith decided that the 20,000+ surviving animals should not be returned to the dealer, U.S. Global Exotics.
The investigation that led to the raid was made possible largely due to an undercover agent working on behalf of PETA. The organization says that many of the animals were destined to be sold at major pet store chains, like PetSmart and Petco.

Petland Continues to Support Cruel Puppy Mills June 29, 2009 2:14 PM

As you might remember, The Humane Society of the United States released the results of an eight-month investigation in November showing that pet store chain Petland Incorporated is the nation's largest retail supporter of puppy mills.
Our Puppy Mills team has been working hard in the months since that exposé was released, and today reveals disturbing new revelations about Petland.
The investigation revealed at least two Petland stores in Florida, the Orlando East and Largo stores, still buying puppies from the facility linked to Kathy Bauck, who was convicted on three counts of animal torture and one count of animal abuse in March. We also found some Petland stores still buying from at least two other puppy mills that we filmed and identified as part of our initial investigation.

Our team conducted an intensive six-month search of public records in multiple states and tracked shipments of puppies from massive commercial brokers to more than 95 percent of Petland's domestic stores. We revealed once again that the store chain is misleading customers about dealing with a special selection of breeders. Instead, Petland's franchisees buy most of their dogs from puppy mills either directly or indirectly through large-scale wholesalers, like Hunte.

This deceptive behavior continues to harm both animals and consumers. More than 600 people who purchased dogs from Petland have already contacted us about the class action lawsuit Petland is currently facing. If you haven’t already, please tell us your story if you bought a puppy from Petland.

We’ll continue to keep the pressure on Petland to join other national pet store chains that refuse to sell dogs from puppy mills, until the company does the right thing for animals.

To prevent another act of cruelty, just have fun with your doggy! It's as easy as ever, and it's lots of fun.

A happy dog consists of many things. When you adopt a dog, you make a difference. You've let a creature in your home that is your responsibility. You have to love it, care for it, clean up after it, train it, and make sure it's happy. Before you adopt a dog, learn about the breed. Learn fun things to do with your dog such as taking it to the dog park, how many hours it should be walked daily, how often to bathe it, training with toys, and other activities. So make bored dog happy, run around with it. Play with it and its toys. Just have fun. Stroke it, rub it, play fetch with it. Train it with toys and treats.

There are lots of things to make a happy dog. Make sure your dog is happy and take good care of it!

This is just my opinion.

This blog is about helping animals that have been abused. Not to argue. But to help. The last three post have been arguing over the IAMS testing and PETA lying. Maybe one of you is correct, but I really don't think fighting over it will find the answer any sooner. Why don't you just call the company or email them? You are more likely to find an answer that way. PETA is sometimes known to, lets say, exaggerate. It is not always the straight out truth, but it is good information.

So please just drop it! Think about the bunnies and the kittens and puppies!

For anyone who has ever lived with a dog or a cat, it's hard to imagine that some big-name dog- and cat-food companies would conduct invasive tests on animals in labs. But the pet industry is big business, and in their efforts to slap "new and improved" labels on their products, some corporate competitors conduct cruel experiments on dogs and cats.

For almost 10 months, a PETA investigator worked undercover in a laboratory paid by Iams to test its products. Some of the cruelty that she documented included the following:
Iams dogs dumped on a cold concrete floor after having huge chunks of muscle cut out of their thighs

Dogs and cats gone stir-crazy from confinement to windowless, dungeon-like buildings

A coworker who instructed her to hit the dogs on the chest if they quit breathing

Another coworker who talked about an Iams dog found dead in his cage, bleeding from his mouth

Cruel studies done by Iams involving forcing tubes down dogs' throats to make them ingest vegetable oil

Iams dogs with such severe tartar buildup on their teeth that it was painful for them to eat

Coworkers who talked about a live kitten who had been washed down a drain

Coworkers who talked about how they had had to go home because the ammonia fumes in the animal trailers were so overpowering that it made their eyes burn (try being one of the animals in those cages!)

Dead Horse Creek

Sea creatures and other animals are constantly caught in a web of fishing line. People trash the line in the water and animals are injured. I was spending some new free time at the local park with my best buds, and we saw 3 teenager dumbos down by the creek, dubbed Dead Horse Creek. Why is it called that you might be wondering. Well a long time ago, a horse fell in during one of the worst storms of night in Morden Manitoba. He drowned. But anyway, it is really deep in there. Well, these teens were so dumb they went down there. They had fishing rods. They waded out into the water. Did they not know it suddenly goes deep. NOOOO. Do they know there are not only fish but snakes and poisonous scorpions in there. NOOOO. They started yelling and laughing weirdly. (strange) They threw their fishing rods in the creek and they left. All insane teenagers always go to the creek and throw in food or garbage or chemicals. There are birds there and muskrats and beavers for lords sake, why do they DO that. Is it funny or something, or are you just too lazy to find a garbage can?

Dolphins-Why do we want to save them?

The pet population is over the top, and that's not a good thing. 99% of pet stores buy from puppy mills, which often means that the dogs were abused (click HERE for more information about puppy mills). Thousands of pets are put in shelters and euthanized each year. Back yard breeders are abundant around the world (click HERE to learn about backyard breeders-AKA BYBs). Backyard breeders breed for fun and profit, more than often breeding dogs with health problems and not taking proper care of the dogs. They only increase the pet population, which is a very large problem in the U.S.A and other areas around the world. Puppy mills keep breed purely for profit and most of the dogs that come from the mills are sick, injured, and many of them die. A smart, good breeder would be trained properly, while puppy mill breeders and BYB breeders are not trained. Sadly, mills don't always come with just puppies. Goats, chickens, cats, etc are also victims.

Please, spay and neuter your pets, or more animals could be in shelters this year! And don't buy from pet stores.

Sugar gliders, hedgehogs and prairie dogs are just a few of the exotic species recently gaining popularity in pet stores. Others, such as non-human primates, tigers and even bears are readily obtainable from private breeders and dealers who advertise to buyers via magazines and over the Internet. Wherever they come from, the global commercialization of exotic animals is a multi-billion dollar industry that often results in animal cruelty, health risks and serious population declines.
The exotic pet trade is the trade and keeping of wild animals as pets, essentially contributing to the suffering of millions of animals, threatening public health and safety, disrupting ecosystems and driving species to endangerment and extinction. Most exotic pets end up in the hands of private individuals, where they suffer from inappropriate housing and care and poor nutrition.

Many exotic animals arrive in the United States illegally. Illegal trafficking in exotic animals is a global business, worth close to $20 billion each year. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the profit made from illegal trade in wildlife ranks second only to the trade of illegal drugs in the United States.
